The problem of having a dark circle under the eye can be very upsetting for some people. Not only does the dark circle have the effect of making them look constantly tired or stressed, but it can be very hard to know exactly how to get rid of it. Often, using make-up, in the form of a concealer, can actually make the circle appear more racoon-like, drawing attention to it rather than away.

Because this is so prevalent in many people, there are a number of good creams available on the market that address the dark circle problem. Usually, if the darkness is not caused by illness or medication, it is caused by leaking capillaries, showing through the thin under eye skin, giving the area a bluish, bruised appearance. Creams and serums will often include vitamins such as K and C, both of which help strengthen and nourish the skin and a
substance like Hesperidin, a flavanoid that aids in restoring damaged capillaries.

There are several light-refracting dark circle cosmetics that, when applied correctly, can improve the look of the under eye area quite significantly. Although these usually claim to be 'eye brighteners' they should not be confused with skin bleaches. Some experts are still undecided as to the safety of some skin bleaches and they should always be used with caution, particularly on the delicate eye skin. Unless the dark circle under the eye is severe, it would be wiser to use a good cream as described above combined with a healthy, anti-oxidant rich diet and plenty of water to hydrate the skin.
