There are many discomforts related to menopause. Aside from the dreaded hot flashes, the symptoms of menopause include menstrual irregularities, mood swings, vaginal dryness and fatigue. Scientists discovered that stress can make menopausal symptoms much worse. This is why it is important to learn how to relax during menopause. Here are some ways to relax during menopause.

Rhythmic Breathing Exercises

Stress & Menopause - 5 Ways to Relax During MenopauseWhen you are stressed, your breathing becomes short and fast. You need to slow it down and take long, slow breaths to help you relax. Inhale and exhale slowly. Count slowly from 1 to 5 as you inhale and count slowly again from 1 to 5 as you exhale. As you breathe slowly, pay close attention to your body and feel it relaxing.

Visualized Breathing

Another among the effective ways to relax during menopause is the visualized breathing technique. First, you need to find a quiet and distraction-free area where you can close your eyes and relax. Use your imagination to find inner peace. Imagine leaving your body and going anywhere relaxing like a deserted island while breathing slowly. Visualize getting rid of stress every time you exhale.

Exercise

Low intensity exercises like walking and biking are among the best ways to relax during menopause. You can also try relaxing exercise classes like yoga and meditation. Make sure that you don’t perform high intensity exercises since this can increase stress levels and make menopausal symptoms worse.

Listen to Music

You can also combine relaxation techniques with listening to soothing music. Choose music that lifts your mood and calms you. You can also try relaxation audio CDs and classical music. Make sure to allot some time for this each day in order to release stress. You can also listen to relaxing music while walking outside.

Drink Some Wine

You can also use alcoholic beverages like wine to help you relax. Just make sure that alcohol doesn’t trigger your menopausal symptoms. If it does then you shouldn’t drink at all. In other cases, drinking a glass or two of wine or beer can help you de-stress and relax. You can also do it while listening to soothing music.

Now you’re aware of the different ways to relax during menopause. Just remember that this should be a liberating time of your life wherein you can reinvent yourself and do the things you couldn’t before. It is possible to make this the best time of your life as long as you accept it with open arms.
